Cambridge English Qualifications For School Children

Young Learners (YLE) exams for children between the ages of four and twelve. These qualifications will encourage your child to learn English from an early age and create a positive attitude to language qualifications

PRE-A1 STARTERS

This exam was formerly known as Cambridge English: Starters (YLE Starters), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. It is the start of a child’s language learning journey. It is made up of three papers developed to encourage and motivate young learners.

Duration : 20 minutes

Content    : 4 parts/ 20 questions

Marks       :  A maximum of five shields

A1 MOVERS

A1 Movers, formerly known as Cambridge English: Movers (YLE Movers), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications.It is the next step in a child’s English language learning after pre-A1 starters. It is made up of three papers developed to encourage and motivate young learners

A2 FLYERS

A2 Flyers, formerly known as Cambridge English: Flyers (YLE Flyers), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. It is the third of our fun, activity-based English tests for children. It is made up of three papers developed to encourage and motivate young learners. You can see exactly what’s in each paper below.

A 2 KEY

The A2 Key for Schools (formerly known as Cambridge English: KET for Schools) is an English language qualification designed for young learners, typically aged 11 to 14. It is one of the exams in the Cambridge English: Key (KET) suite and is aimed to prepare them for higher-level English language qualifications.

Test format

Content    :  7 parts/ 32 questions

Marks (% of total) :  50%

Purpose : Shows you can understand simple written information such as signs, brochures, newspapers and magazines.

Content    : 5 parts/ 25 questions

Marks (% of total)   : 25%

Purpose : Requires you to be able to understand announcements and other spoken material when people speak reasonably slowly.

Content    : 2 parts

Marks (% of total)  : 25%

Purpose : Shows you can take part in a conversation by answering and asking simple questions. Your Speaking test will be conducted usually face to face with one or two other candidates and two examiners. One of the examiners (who could be online, examining remotely) talks to you and the other examiner listens. This makes your test more realistic and more reliable. Examiners may use their mobile phones for entering marks using an app.

PRELIMINARY [PET]

The Preliminary for Schools (commonly known as B1 Preliminary for Schools) is a Cambridge English qualification tailored specifically for school-aged learners. It is equivalent to the B1 level on the CEFR. The exam is designed to assess the English language skills of students who are preparing for more advanced studies or exams. It is a valuable certification for students to demonstrate that they have mastered the basics.

Content    : 6 parts/ 32 questions

Marks (% of total) :  25%

Purpose :Shows you can read and understand the main points from signs, newspapers and magazines.

Purpose :Shows you can use vocabulary and structure correctly.

Linguaskill is available as two options, General and Business. This gives you the ability to choose the sort of language that will be tested, based on your objectives.

Linguaskill General

Linguaskill General tests language used in daily life, making it ideal for university admission or exit, and recruitment for roles in a non-business-specific environment. For example, where the employee needs strong English skills to perform their role effectively, but will not need specialist business terminology.

This makes the test suitable for a broad spectrum of organisations. Test topics include studying and working, making future plans, travel and technology.

Linguaskill Business

Linguaskill Business tests English used in a business and corporate setting, and is most suitable for recruitment in organisations where employees are expected to be familiar with the language of business.

It is suitable for large or small organisations, which may be operating on an international level. Test topics include the buying and selling of products or services, the office, business travel and human resources
